Abstract |
The authors present a rare case of dumbbell-shaped spinal cavernous hemangioma. A 45-year-old female was admitted due to low back pain. Computed tomography myelogram and magnetic resonance imaging studies showed a spinal epidural mass extending to extravertebral space through the intervertebral foramen. Though it was dumbbell shaped, the intervertebral foramen was not enlarged. Under the impression of neurinoma, unilateral osteoplastic laminotomy of the third lumbar vertebra was performed. The mass was thightly attached to the epidural venous plexus and highly vascular. The mass was removed en bloc and confirmed with cavernous hemangioma. The authors discuss the differential diagnosis for lesions with dumbbellsha- ped growth and treatment options for spinal epidural cavernous hemangioma.
