Abstract

Objective
The Authors report technique, indication, result, and complications of transforaminal epidural endoscopic lumbar discectomy(TELD)
Methods
From January 2002 to december 2002, the authors performed TELD for 116 patients, and 95 patients were followed up. Retrospective analyses were done, and the follow up period was 6 month to 18 month(mean 12months). Postoperative outcomes of patients were classified by Macnab's criteria.
Results
According to Macnab's criteria, 81 patients(85.2%) were classified into excellent and good outcome. Fourteen patients were classified into fair(4.3%) and poor(10.5%) outcome, respectively. Among 10 patients who were classified into poor outcome, 9 required revision surgery and 1 had nerve root injury.
Conclusion
TELD seems to be a primary treatment in selected patients with herniated lumbar disc disease.
