Abstract |
Objective: The purpose of present study is to evaluate the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency cervical zygapophyseal neuro- tomy in patients with cervicogenic headache.
Methods: A total of thirty consecutive patients with chronic(>6 months of duration) cervicogenic headache who showed greater than 50% of pain relief from diagnostic/prognostic blocks were included. These patients were treated with radiofre- quency neurotomy of the cervical zygapophyseal joints and then assessed 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, and 12 months following the treatment.
Results: The results of this study showed that radiofrequency neurotomy of the cervical zygapophyseal joints significantly reduced headache severity in 24(80%) patients(>80% of pain relief). The average mean number of headache days per week decreased from 6.2 days to 2.8 days and the average analgesic intake per week showed a 70% reduction.
Conclusion: Radiofrequency cervical zygapophyseal neurotomy has shown to provide substantial pain relief in patients with chronic cervicogenic headache when carefully selected. |
