Abstract |
The aim of this report is to present surgical treatment of a 21-year-old man with known hereditary multiple exostosis syndrome(HME), who developed spinal cord compression symptoms caused by an exostosis of the C4 lamina. The authors describe a highly unusual clinical manifestation of solitary osteochondroma with a review of relevant literature.
The authors reviewed medical records, relevant radiographic examinations, histopathologic specimens, and clinical follow up data.
The spinal canal exostosis with cervical cord compression was excised successfully with decompressive laminectomy. After surgery, no recurrence of tumor was found, and the stability of the cervical spine has been preserved.
A case of intraspinal osteochondroma with hereditary multiple exostosis was reported. The authors recommend an early prophylactic laminectomy for young patients with potential risk of acute spinal cord compression due to this disease entity. |
