Abstract
Symptomatic sacral perineural cyst is uncommon and sacral perineural cyst associated with spinal stenosis is rare. We report a case of a symptomatic perineural cyst with spinal stenosis. A 68-year-old female presented with low back pain and claudication. Computed tomography showed lumbar spinal stenosis. After a decompressive total laminectomy, the patient showed impro- vement of the claudication. One month after the operation, she complained of urinary incontinence and pain radiating to the left leg. Diagnostic imaging studies including magnetic resonance imaging and computed tomographic myelography(CTM) were performed. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a sacral meningeal cyst. Water-soluble myelography and CTM confirmed delayed contrast media filling of the cyst. Laminectomy of the sacrum(S2) was performed with partial excision of the cystic wall and plastic suturing. The operative findings were typical of a sacral perineural cyst. We found that this sacral perineural cyst evoked the clinical symptoms, and careful observation was needed to identify this case of a sacral perineural cyst associated with spinal stenosis.
