Abstract
The vast majority of myxopapillary ependymomas, a histological subtype of ependymoma, appear in the lumbar thecal sac in association with conus medullaris, cauda equina, or filum terminale. Myxopapillary ependymoma is typically a solitary tumor involving the filum terminale, and the simultaneous discovery of multiple myxopapillary ependymomas located on the filum terminale has rarely been reported. Moreover, the pathogenesis of this dual ependymoma located at the same embryological level is uncertain. Here, we report an unusual case of dual myxopapillary ependymoma; one on the filum terminale internum at the L1-3 level and the other on the exit of the L5 root.
