Abstract |
Intratumoral and peritumoral hemorrhage of a neurilemmoma of the cauda equina is a rare phenomenon. A 37-year-old man presented with a 3-day history of sudden onset severe low back pain and an electrical sensation of radiating to posterior aspect of both thighs; this developed immediately after kicking a ball. Lumbar magnetic resonance images(MRI) demonstrated an intradural extramedullary tumor at the L3-4 level that was resected completely en bloc. Histologically, the tumor was a neurilemmoma, in which extensive intratumoral hemorrhage was observed. We review the relevant literature and discuss the possible mechanism, surgical, and pathological findings associated with hemorrhage of a neurilemmoma. |
