Dear Colleagues,
Neurospine invites authors to submit video articles for our upcoming special issue on spinal endoscopy, scheduled for December 2024. This special issue aims to showcase outstanding surgical techniques in spinal endoscopy, providing a dynamic and visual representation of complex procedures and methodologies in the field. By providing a unique educational experience, these video articles will contribute significantly to the advancement of spinal endoscopy practices.
I. General Information
1. Video Content:
- • Videos should be between 5 to 10 minutes in length and the file size should be less than 1 GB.
- • The video must have a minimum resolution of 1080p with clear audio and can be submitted in MP4, MOV, WMV, AVI, or FLV format.
- • All video content must be in English and should include a detailed demonstration of the technique or procedure with a narrated explanation.
2. Submission Components:
The submission should include the following components:
- (1) A video file that adheres to the specifications outlined above.
- (2) Title page in MS Word format
- (3) Manuscript in MS Word format:
- • Abstract
- • Case report
- • Discussion
- • References
3. Submission Deadline:
All submissions must be received by October 15, 2024.
4. Submission Categories:
Please submit your video articles under one of the following categories:
- • Full endoscopic Decompression
- - Cervical spine
- - Thoracic spine
- - Lumbar spine
- • Endoscope-assisted surgery
5. Submission Process
- • All files must be submitted directly through the Neurospine submission website (Website: http://submit.e-neurospine.org).
- • If accepted for publication, the authors will grant Neurospine the right to post and maintain the video article on the Neurospine website (https://www.e-neurospine.org/).
- • All parts of the video article in Neurospine will be immediately and permanently free for everyone to read and download. All articles are distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/), which permits unrestricted noncommercial use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
- • The editorial staff will lightly copyedit your Mansucript file for spelling or grammar; all video-related content is the responsibility of the authors.
6. Ethical Considerations
- • Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy. Obtain informed consent for the use of any identifiable patient information or images.
- • Comply with ethical standards in reporting and performing the surgical techniques.
- • Obtain patient consent and permissions for any copyrighted material included in the video.
7. Review Process
- • Submissions will undergo peer review by experts in the field.
- • Review criteria include clarity of presentation, technical quality of the video, relevance and educational value, and adherence to guidelines.
- • Authors may be asked to revise their video or manuscript based on reviewer feedback.
8. Forms and Permissions
Authors will retain copyright to their video articles; therefore, Neurospine requires the following forms prior to acceptance:
- • Publication Agreement: This agreement grants Neurospine the right to publish the video article (video, abstract/transcript, and optional supplemental file). The corresponding author must sign this e-form on behalf of all authors. A link to this form will be emailed to the corresponding author. Forms that should be collected by the corresponding author and kept on file in case of future queries (not required to upload these forms):
- • Patient Consent Forms: Signed by all patients and other persons displayed or mentioned in your video, text, or supplemental file. This form must clearly state that the video article will appear on the Internet and may be seen by the general public. It must be signed by the patient/participant or legal guardian to be valid.
- • Permission Forms for Copyrighted Material: Authors must obtain permission to include material in their video article that has been copyrighted by others (such as tables, figures, or short video clips), regardless of previous publication status. This permission may take the form of a simple email or a full permission license with terms and conditions. The permission must grant you, the Author(s), a nonexclusive worldwide license to reproduce the work. For protection, request both electronic and print rights so that text and supplemental files may be printed and distributed. Contact the copyright holder directly to obtain a permission license or letter granting these rights. If figures, tables, or short video clips were previously published, consult the permission license to see if there is a preferred manner of crediting the copyright holder and the original source in the legend.
II. Guidelines for Video File
Your video should represent one or more unique technical pearls of interest to spine surgeons, specifically focusing on endoscopic spine surgery. To ensure consistency and clarity, please follow this recommended structure for your video:
Video File Specifications:
- • Length: Video should not exceed 10 minutes.
- • Acceptable Formats: MP4, MOV, MPG, MPEG, WMV, AVI, FLV, QT
- • File Size Limit: The file must be less than 1 GB. If the file size exceeds 1 GB, please contact support@e-neurospine.org for further instructions.
- • Voice-over Audio: Required with clear audio. Avoid background noise. Authors must ensure that each word is clearly audible at a mid-volume level. Do not include background music due to potential copyright violations.
- • Text: Ensure all text (including abbreviations) in your video is checked for correct spelling and grammar.
III. Title page –MS Word Document

The title should be concise, descriptive, and informative, reflecting the content of the video and manuscript. Avoid abbreviations or jargon that may not be familiar to all readers.
- • Title: Must be an exact match to that given in the video file opening screen.
- • Author Names: Must be listed in the same order as presented in the video file. Each author’s name should be followed by his or her highest academic degree(s). The presentation of the names (e.g., with or without middle initials) and the degrees included with each author’s name should also match. Confirm each author’s name and degree(s) in advance of submission.
- • Hospital/Departmental Affiliation(s): Must be listed and should include city, state/province, and country. Use superscripted numbers to identify which authors belong to which institutions.
- • Corresponding Author: Must be designated, with current contact information and email address.
- • Submission Statement: Provide a statement confirming your abstract and video are original and have not been submitted elsewhere in part or in whole.
- • Disclosure Statement: For each author, include any possible conflicts of interest related to the video article or its subject matter. Funding information and sources of support should also be provided, if applicable.
- • Patient Informed Consent Statement: If your study required informed consent, state that it was obtained. Include IRB numbers if applicable. If informed consent was not required, state “Not applicable.”

Abstract
- • The abstract should be a succinct summary of the manuscript, not exceeding 250 words. Do not include reference citations in this section.
- • Structure the abstract into the following subsections:
- - Objective: State the main objective or purpose of the case and the video.
- - Background: Provide a brief background on the clinical issue or surgical technique demonstrated.
- - Case Report Summary: Highlight key aspects of the case and the approach taken.
- - Conclusion: Summarize the clinical significance and educational value of the video.
- • provide 3-5 key words
Case Report
- • Provide a detailed description of the patient’s medical history, diagnosis, and pre-operative evaluation.
- • Include relevant clinical details such as imaging findings, laboratory results, and other diagnostic data.
- • Outline the surgical approach or procedure demonstrated in the video, including any preoperative planning and patient positioning.
- • If applicable, discuss the rationale for the chosen technique and any alternative approaches considered.
Discussion
- • Analyze the procedure demonstrated in the video, discussing its clinical relevance, advantages, and potential limitations.
- • Compare the technique with alternative approaches, citing relevant literature.
- • Address any challenges encountered during the procedure and how they were managed.
- • Consider providing a brief follow-up, discussing the patient’s outcome post-procedure if available.
- • Discuss the educational value of the video and its potential impact on clinical practice.
References
- • List all references cited in the manuscript following the Neurospine citation style (Vancouver format).
- • Ensure that all key sources of information, including studies comparing techniques or outcomes, are referenced.
- • Limit references to those most pertinent to the video content and discussion, generally between 10-20 references.
V. Contact Information
