Dear Spine Surgeons and Researchers

The increase in the geriatric population and changes in lifestyle have driven a rising need for minimally invasive spinal surgery, and as an important element of this field, endoscopic spinal surgery has made steady and consistent progress.

In order to promote research advancements in this field, Neurospine dedicated its first special issue of 2019 to endoscopic spinal surgery (ESS) and worked with the North American Spine Society (NASS) to disseminate this special issue in an effort to bolster the further development and availability of endoscopic spinal surgery.

After much anticipation, an official course on endoscopic spinal surgery will be given with the sponsorship of Neurospine at the NASS Annual Meeting (https://www.spine.org/AM) on September 25, 2019. Founded in 1984, NASS is considered to be one of the most outstanding medical organizations throughout the world. Co-sponsored by the Korea Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery Society (KOMISS), this event is significant for two reasons: first, it signals that endoscopic spinal surgery has become a crucial aspect of spinal treatment and surgery, and second, it signals that endoscopic Spine Surgeons in South Korea would dedicate to globalize and develop endoscopic spine surgery.

The symposium and workshop of this program will be held from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the McCormick Place Convention Center under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Wang, the president of NASS and the lead editor of the Neurospine ESS special issue, and Dr. Hyung-Sung Kim, the director of Nanoori Hospital. Topics such as the scientific basis of endoscopic spine surgery, the basics of endoscopic spine surgery, and advances in endoscopic spine surgery will be discussed at the symposium, and the workshop will focus on endoscopic discectomy, endoscopic decompression, and endoscopic lumbar interbody fusion.

We look forward to connecting with any and all colleagues with an interest in endoscopic spinal surgery at this program.

Description

The challenge for a healthier spine treatment was to take endoscopic spinal surgery as the main stream.
Endoscopic spinal surgery has become an important area for a healthier and happier human life and has provided improved spinal treatment through steady research and development.
Changes in the generation of endoscopic spinal surgery have expanded from the treatment of spinal disc disease to the treatment of spinal stenosis and are expected to resolve many of the degenerative spinal diseases in the future.
The NASS/Neurospine special issue is to provide detailed information about endoscopic spinal surgery through the endoscopic spinal surgery symposium and cadaver workshop.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants should gain strategies to:
  • Recognize anatomical and pathological concept of endoscopic spinal surgery;
  • Appreciate endoscopic application in the degeneration spinal disc and degenerative spinal stenosis;
  • Use strategies in the endoscopic spine surgery.
