In this issue, Dr. Phyo Kim (the President of Neurospinal Society of Japan) presents an editorial in memory of the late Dr. Taniguchi (deputy editor of Neurospine). In this editorial, Dr. Kim writes about Dr. Taniguchi’s lifelong pursuit of spinal neurosurgery with the mind of a neuroscientist.

Dr. Mehmet Zileli contributes an article entitled “History of Spinal Neurosurgery and Spine Societies,” in which he briefly describes the practice of spinal neurosurgery in several countries and reviews the societies in which spinal neurosurgeons actively participate.

Dr. Melvin C. Makhni and Dr. K. Daniel Riew contribute an essay about “The Art of Diagnosis in the Cervical Spine.”

Dr. Han Jo Kim presents an article entitled “Cervical Deformity: Evaluation, Classification, and Surgical Planning.” In this article, he summarizes the present-day concept of the classification of cervical spine deformities.

Dr. P. Sarat Chandra, in a piece entitled “Weak Ligaments and Sloping Joints: A New Hypothesis for Development of Congenital Atlanto-Axial Dislocation and Basilar Invagination,” argues for the importance of genetic factors for an understanding of basilar invagination. Dr. Lauren K. Dunn contributes an article entitled “Post-operative low-dose tranexamic acid after major spine surgery: A matched cohort analysis,” She concludes that low-dose tranexamic acid does not decrease the postoperative drain output.

Dr. Omar M. Al Jamma presents a case report, “Cervical arthroplasty in the treatment of cervical angina.” In the case described in this article, refractory angina of non-cardiac origin was carefully investigated in a patient with cervical spine disease.
